HIRE OF LINE:

Although all the five star and even three star hotels has the complete requirement of the linen with them in circulations. At times when some extra burden or movement is there in the hotel the linen room might have to look upon some hired linen to cater to this extra slot of the guest. Generally the linen hiring requirement exercise is done for the Food & Beverages' Banquet requirement, as it can need large linen requirement.

Apart from the hire of the linen for the F&B service a few hotel at the initial does not involve the high capital for the purchase of the linen but on the other hand run into contract with the linen suppliers on hire. The contract is done after arriving at the decision of the hire about the linen supply and cleaning procedure. This kind of set up is not evident in general in the hotel industry but can be seen in Hospitals and Hostels. The owner or the housekeeper always ensures the quality of the linen before running into the hire contract. The hiring of the linen is done on the basis of the par requirement of the hotel, hospital or the hostel.

PAR CALCULATION OF THE HOTEL:

One par of linen refers to the quantity of the linen required to set all the room and dining place of the hotel ready for operations. For example in a hotel of 80 double and 20 single room and 40 cover restaurant of 10 tables, each of four covers, one par of the line will be in general:

A five star hotel or a three star hotel generally operates on three and half par of room linen, four par of restaurant linen and three par of banquet linen (If heavy banquets are there than the same par level is five). For the restaurants four par of linen is considered as the restaurant line faces a lot of soiling in its day to day use which at times need special care in laundry, thus delaying the wash process.

In actual a hotel operate on three par of line the half par extra is kept for the extra bed requirement and special occasion when the rooms are sold twice a day or the evening service demands for the change of the linen. For a small hotel with high turn over the same linen requirement can be upto four pars. The room items like blanket and mattress protector or duvet are generally kept in one and a quarter par only as they are washed once in a month or two.

The cycle of circulation for three par of the linen is as follows:

Day One:

One par of the linen is withdrawn from the room and sent in the laundry.

The second par is put in the room to complete the room making which is collected from the linen room.

Day Two:

The dirty linen, which was put in the room on Day 1, is withdrawn and sent for washing.

Second par of the line is put in room to complete the room making which is collected from the line room.

The third par, which has been washed, ironed and folded, is sent to the linen room from the laundry (the same linen which as sent on Day 1 for washing from the rooms).

Thus the circulation of the three par of the linen with in-house laundry easily supports the hotel operation. If in case the laundry is contracted and outsourced than the linen requirement rises to four and a half par as due to any reason the laundered might delay the delivery of the linen. Also the washed linen off thee previous day is delivered at the time of collection of the dirty line for the day which is in general the afternoon after all the rooms are ready. This fact mean that the linen room receives the linen only on delivery of the dirty to the laundered thus the balance in the linen room after the morning withdrawal for the floors will be just the half par, which is not sufficient in emergency.
