SELECTION OF SOFT FURNISHINGS:
While selecting the soft furnishing a lot of
other factors are also considered apart from the general points, which are
always considered before the purchase of the fabric or linen. These
important points are:
Blending with the environment:
Always before considering a material it is ensured that the material will
suitably blend in with the environment of its placement and other fabrics in
the environment. The color of the fabric is also looked upon with the same
point of view.
Colors Fastening:
Soft furnishing are very colorful and thus prior to the purchase it is
ensured by testing the sample that the color of the fabrics are fast and it
does not bleed in the process of cleaning which could be washing or dry
cleaning.
SOFT FURNISHINGS:
Soft furnishings include the Curtains, Bed Covers
and Upholstery material for the furniture. In any hotel the stitching of
these material is always outsourced and they serve the material requirement,
which is procured by the hotel after selecting the material. The calculation
for these soft furnishing is done on the basis of the standard length and
width of the bedcover and curtain while for the upholstery the material is
calculated as per the standard requirement for eg:
Dining Chair Seat
Only 0.5 mtr.
Dining Chair With Seat &
Back 1mtr.
Sofa Chair With Seat and Back and Wooden
handle 1.5 mtr.
Sofa Chair With Full
Upholstery 2mtr.
Three Seater With Wooden
Handle 3 mtr.
Complete Upholstered
Sofa 4 mtr.
For Curtain:
If the length of the window is 60" and Width 78"
than to calculate the material requirement we require the width of the
chosen fabric and also the extra length and width requirement of the curtain
so that light does not enter from the corners. Since the fabric is going to
run straight with a lot of frills thus we first decide how many frills to
make in it. The frills decide the number of panels of the fabric, which will
be required for the width of the curtain. An extra one-inch is calculated
for stitching per panel per stitch. For the length extra 3" is taken for the
hemming at top and bottom excluding the extra requirement for the window
coverage to avoid the light entry in the room. Important point to remember
is that while calculating the material always remember that if the material
is having some design than a few extra inch of material length wise would be
required to math the design of the two panel running together.
An average of 175% of the fabric width is
required in the case of the light or Sheer Curtain with pleates in it. Thus
for a window of 12 ft the requirement of the sheer curtain fabric will be at
least 21 ft. Also an extra 6" is added to the width of the fabric for the
overlap between the two curtain divisions so that the light does not
penetrate the room through the joints of the curtain. For the sides of the
window an extra 8" to feet is required so that the light does not enter the
room from the sides of the window. Thus in all an extra 22" or approx two
feet is required for the proper fixing of a curtain width wise. While in the
length the same requirement is calculated from the curtain rod to the floor
if the window is a picture window or 6" drop in case of a regular window,
which is 3' high from the floor. An additional 3" or 2" is kept for hemming
of the curtain after keeping it in the hanging position and running the AC
for 3 - 5 days. This process is carried out so that the stretch, if any in
the material can also be adjusted in the curtain before hemming.
A new rubberized material is newly introduced in
the hotel industry for the window treatments. This material has replaced the
Cora cloth from the curtains, which used to guard the sheers from direct
sunlight as well as inhibit the excess light in the room from outside. This
new rubberized material is known as Blackout in the Hotel Industries layman
language while the technical name is Rocklon. The Rocklon guards the sheer
curtains from the sunlight and avoid any type of fading in the fabric. The
requirement is merely 125% of the width of the window. In length the same
amount of material is required as in the Sheer Curtain.
For Bed Cover:
The material for the bed cover is very similar to
that of the curtain here the consideration is kept for the drops of the
bedcover on the all four side while calculating the length and width of the
bedcover and also is included the extra length that would be required to put
the two pillows of the bed in it with the grooves. Similar to curtain
material if the material chosen is having any design or pattern than some
extra inches are added per bed cover calculation, if two panels form the
width of the bed cover, to match the pattern and design of the panels.
